The Transporter is the van most pop-tops are built for, and it shows. The T5, T6 and T6.1 share the same basic body, so one well-proven roof fits all three generations, in short or long wheelbase. That is why the Transporter is also the cheapest van to put a pop-top on.
The new T7 Transporter, launched in 2025, is a different van underneath. It was developed with Ford and shares its body with the latest Transit Custom, so it takes its own roof. If you have a T7, make sure any quote you get is for the T7 roof, not a T6.1 one.

What to know about the Transporter
T5, T6 and T6.1: one roof for all three
From the 2003 T5 to the final T6.1 in 2024, the roof aperture is the same, so the same SWB and LWB roofs fit across the range. SWB roofs start at £2,200; the longer LWB roof is £2,350.
New T7 Transporter (2025 on)
The T7 Transporter is built on the second-generation Transit Custom body, so it takes the same style of roof at £2,600. The T7 Multivan is a different vehicle altogether; ask us if that is what you have.
Shuttle and Caravelle
Passenger versions have a full headlining and trim that has to come out and go back in around the new roof. That adds £100 of labour.
Roof bars
Pop-top Transporters can still carry roof bars. Your own bars can be refitted for £40, new black or silver bars supplied for £170, with cross members £80. A wind deflector (£35) cuts noise at motorway speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a T5 pop-top roof fit a T6 or T6.1?
Yes. The T5, T6 and T6.1 share the same roof aperture, so the same roof fits all three. The new T7 Transporter is different and takes its own roof.
How much is a pop-top for a VW T6.1?
From £2,200 inc VAT for a short wheelbase T6.1, or £2,350 for a long wheelbase, with the roof bed included.
Can you fit a pop-top to a long wheelbase Transporter?
Yes. There is a dedicated LWB roof for the T5, T6 and T6.1 at £2,350. It runs the extra length of the van, rather than leaving a gap at the back.
Can you fit a pop-top to a Caravelle or Shuttle?
Yes. The headlining and interior trim need to come out and go back around the roof, which adds £100 of labour.
Do you fit pop-tops to the new T7 Transporter?
Yes. The T7 SWB roof is £2,600 inc VAT with the bed included. The T7 shares its body with the latest Ford Transit Custom, so it takes a different roof from the T6.1.
How long does it take to fit a pop-top roof?
Standard roofs are fitted in a day. You drop the van off at 8am and collect it the same evening. If you choose a colour-coded roof or larger extras, we will confirm the timing when you book.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a pop-top roof?
Yes. A pop-top is a modification and your insurer needs to know before you drive. Specialist campervan insurers cover them routinely.
Will a pop-top roof let me register my van as a motor caravan?
Not on its own. DVLA guidance counts a high-top roof as a motor caravan feature but specifically excludes pop-top elevating roofs. Reclassification depends on other external features, such as side windows, a habitation door, graphics or an awning bar, plus fitted seats, a table, sleeping, cooking and storage inside.
Can I get a courtesy van while mine is being fitted?
Yes. A VW Caddy can be hired for £50 a day, or a VW camper for £70 a day on weekdays. Drivers must be 25 or over with a clean licence.

Fit more while the van is in
Many customers add other upgrades on the same visit: electrics and solar, windows and rooflights, awnings, insulation and carpet lining, or a full campervan conversion.
