A Caddy Maxi drives like a car, parks like a car and costs far less to run than a full-size van. What it lacks is headroom. A pop-top fixes that: raise the roof and you can stand to cook and change, and there is a double bed above you as well.
It is the most popular way to build a micro-camper that still works as an everyday vehicle. With the roof down, the Caddy stays low enough for normal car parks and most garages.

What to know about the Caddy Maxi
Why the Maxi
The roof is made for the long Caddy Maxi body. The extra length gives a usable roof bed and room below for a small kitchen or bed unit. If you have a standard-length Caddy, ask us before you book.
Tell us your year
The Caddy has changed body shape over the years, so tell us your registration year when you enquire so the right roof can be confirmed.
Small-van extras
The Caddy takes a smaller Fiamma F35 wind-out awning (£850), plus the usual mattress, bed extension, spotlights and canvas upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a Caddy Maxi pop-top?
From £2,550 inc VAT with the roof bed included.
Can you stand up in a Caddy with a pop-top?
Yes, with the roof raised you can stand in the area under the opening, which is where most people put the cooking area.
Does the Caddy roof bed fit two people?
The roof bed is designed for two adults, though in a Caddy it is snug. A bed extension (£80) and mattress (£85) make it more comfortable.
Can I fit an awning to a Caddy Maxi?
Yes. A Fiamma F35 wind-out awning, sized for smaller vans, can be fitted for £850 in white or black.
How long does it take to fit a pop-top roof?
Standard roofs are fitted in a day. You drop the van off at 8am and collect it the same evening. If you choose a colour-coded roof or larger extras, we will confirm the timing when you book.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a pop-top roof?
Yes. A pop-top is a modification and your insurer needs to know before you drive. Specialist campervan insurers cover them routinely.
Will a pop-top roof let me register my van as a motor caravan?
Not on its own. DVLA guidance counts a high-top roof as a motor caravan feature but specifically excludes pop-top elevating roofs. Reclassification depends on other external features, such as side windows, a habitation door, graphics or an awning bar, plus fitted seats, a table, sleeping, cooking and storage inside.
Can I get a courtesy van while mine is being fitted?
Yes. A VW Caddy can be hired for £50 a day, or a VW camper for £70 a day on weekdays. Drivers must be 25 or over with a clean licence.

Fit more while the van is in
Many customers add other upgrades on the same visit: electrics and solar, windows and rooflights, awnings, insulation and carpet lining, or a full campervan conversion.
