Campervan & Motorhome Habitation Checks — Blackburn (coming soon)

A habitation check is the yearly health check for the living area of your campervan or motorhome — the gas, electrics, water, ventilation, damp and safety systems that keep the vehicle safe and comfortable to use. It’s the leisure-vehicle equivalent of an annual service, and while it isn’t a legal requirement like an MOT, it’s often needed to keep a manufacturer’s warranty valid, and it’s the best way to catch damp and water ingress before it turns into expensive damage.

We’re a private workshop, near Blackburn, and we’re looking at adding habitation checks and servicing to what we do. To start with, this would be focused on campervans and motorhomes rather than touring caravans — our workshop space is best suited to self-contained vehicles that drive in and out.

What a habitation check covers

A full habitation service works through the living systems of the vehicle and gives you a written report on the condition of each. Typically that includes:

• Damp and water ingress — moisture readings around windows, seals, joints and floor, to catch problems early
• Gas system — pipework, appliances, ventilation and a tightness test on the LPG system
• Electrical systems — 12V and mains hook-up, leisure battery, charging and safety devices
• Water system — pump, tanks, taps, pipework and heater
• Ventilation and safety — vents, alarms (smoke, CO), fire safety and general condition
• Bodywork seals and fittings — the things that keep weather out and the vehicle sound

You’d receive a clear report at the end, flagging anything that needs attention now and anything worth keeping an eye on — the record many warranties and insurers want to see.
