A 2021 Citroën Relay L3H2 — designed and built in our Darwen workshop as a complete, off-grid campervan. 430 watts of solar, Truma heating and hot water, an internal shower and a full kitchen. Finished to showcase standard, and sold on completion.
We built this one to our own brief — the van we’d take ourselves.
Most of our work starts with a customer’s van and a list of what they want fitted. This one started with a blank Relay and a simple question: if nobody was watching the budget, how good could a genuinely liveable, genuinely off-grid camper be?
The answer is on this page. A long-wheelbase, high-roof Citroën Relay taken from empty panel van to a three-berth camper with its own power, heat, hot water, a proper kitchen and an internal shower — the systems that let you park up somewhere remote and stay there. It’s the standard everything else we build is measured against.

Power that lasts off-grid
430 watts of roof solar feeding a leisure system sized to run the fridge, lights and everything you actually use for days at a time — no hook-up, no engine idling, no rationing.

Warm on a Lancashire morning
Truma heating and hot water throughout, so the van’s as usable in February as in July — cabin heat where you need it and hot water at the tap and the shower.

Water, and a shower you’d use
Fresh and waste tanks on board feeding a full internal shower and washroom, with an external shower for muddy boots and the dog. Self-contained, wherever you park.

Hob, oven, fridge and a proper sink built into bespoke units, with a dining table and seating that work for real cooking and real meals — furniture cut and fitted in-house to suit the layout.

The long-wheelbase L3H2 shell gives the room to carry three on belted travel seats and sleep three — a layout that holds a washroom, a kitchen and a bed without feeling squeezed.

We built every system in this Relay ourselves — the electrics, the heating, the plumbing, the furniture. That’s the same work we do week in, week out on smaller jobs: a diesel heater, a leisure-battery or solar upgrade, a water system, an awning, or a fault that needs finding — or a full conversion like this one.
